Ultra Wins Flight 0 Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Contract for U.S. Navy - March 2006
Ultra announces that its Advanced Tactical Systems business, based in Austin, Texas, USA, has been awarded a contract by the General Dynamics team as a subcontractor to BAE Systems. Ultra will be providing the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Tactical Data Link capability. This contract is worth $1.9 million for the initial Flight 0 LCS. For LCS, Ultra is developing the Advanced Tactical Maritime System (ATMS), which is based on the highly successful ADSI system. Key capabilities provided by Ultra ATMS include:

  • Certified tactical data link operations on Link 16 and Link 11
  • Providing a host interface to the integrated combat management system
  • Providing Beyond Line-of-Sight (BLOS) capability (Navy Satellite Link 16)
  • Link 16 terminal control and Link 11 data terminal set (DTS) control

The LCS is an entirely new breed of U.S. Navy warship. A fast, agile, and networked surface combatant, LCS' modular, focused-mission design will provide Combatant Commanders the required warfighting capabilities and operational flexibility to ensure maritime dominance and access for the joint force. LCS will operate with focused-mission packages that deploy manned and unmanned vehicles to execute missions as assigned by Combatant Commanders.

LCS will also perform Special Operations Forces (SOF) support; high-speed transit; Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO); Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR); and Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP). While complementing capabilities of the Navy's larger multi-mission surface combatants, LCS will also be networked to share tactical information with other Navy aircraft, ships, submarines, and joint units.

ADSI Joint Certification Link 11, Link 11B, Link 16, and JREAP - December 2005
The ADSI version 12.3 recently completed joint tactical data link certification testing by the Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) in Joint Interoperability Test (JIT) 05-05. This testing verified the ADSI system's ability to transmit, receive, display, and forward Link 11, Link 11B, Link 16, MIL-STD-3011 Joint Range Extension Application Protocol (JREAP) Appendix B and Appendix C information with other joint service command and control systems. Additionally, the ADSI system was evaluated for JREAP Appendix A joint interoperability during a JITC-sponsored test conducted at the Software Engineering Directorate in Huntsville, Alabama. Preliminary analysis indicates that both tests were successful, and formal certification and distribution of the new ADSI system baseline is projected for February 2006.

Ultra Wins Tactical Data Link Development Contract for USAF - September 2005
Ultra announces that its Advanced Tactical Systems, Inc. business, based in Austin, Texas, USA, has been awarded a data link system development contract by Northrop Grumman on behalf of the U.S. Air Force Electronic Systems Center. This award, worth in excess of $2.6 million, represents the fiscal year 2005 increment of a multi-year contract with an anticipated total value to Ultra of about $25 million. The development efforts for this new contract will commence immediately with deliveries beginning in late 2006.

Ultra will provide the Common Link Management Processor component of the Joint Interface Control Officer (JICO) Support Systems (JSS) that enables tactical data link networks to be monitored and controlled to optimize the throughput of battlespace information. The transportable nature of Ultra's ADSI system real-time command and control system makes it especially suitable for use as the kernel of the Full Expeditionary Capability system. This system will first be used on deployment to theatre and is also part of Ultra's scope of supply.

Ultra is a world-class provider of both hardware and software as systems solutions for real-time command control applications, tactical data link gateways, and sensor fusion engines. Ultra has delivered more than 400 systems to locations worldwide in a range of military platforms and applications.

Regarding the recent award, Douglas Caster, Chief Executive of Ultra commented, "This contract demonstrates the confidence of the U.S. Air Force and of Northrop Grumman in Ultra's capability to provide and support robust tactical data link networks that work reliably under the most demanding circumstances in critical operational environments. We look forward to continuing our relationship as a key solution provider on Northrop Grumman's program for the U.S. Air Force."

Ultra Wins Software Development Contract for U.S. Navy - June 2005
Ultra announces that its Advanced Tactical Systems business, based in Austin, Texas, USA, has been awarded a software development contract by Northrop Grumman as a key part of a system integration program for the U.S. Navy Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command. Under this initial contract, worth in excess of $2.5 million, Ultra will develop software for the Common Link Integration Processing ("CLIP") program that will be used as a common battlespace IT solution for a variety of Navy and Air Force platforms. The total value to Ultra of the CLIP program on a multi-year basis is expected to be about $25 million. The development activity for this new contract will commence immediately and deliveries will begin in late 2006.

Advanced Tactical Systems provides both hardware and software as systems solutions for real-time command and control applications. Ultra’s ADSI product combines multiple radar inputs and other information sources such as tactical data links to provide an integrated situational awareness picture for air defense purposes. For the CLIP program, Advanced Tactical Systems will develop key components of the software designed to dramatically reduce the cost of adding a battlespace IT network capability to military platforms. Advanced Tactical Systems has delivered more than 450 systems to locations worldwide in a range of military platforms and applications.

Douglas Caster, Chief Executive of Ultra remarked, "This important contract underpins Ultra's position as a strategic supplier to large system integrators such as Northrop Grumman and demonstrates the confidence of the US Navy in Ultra's ability to deliver cutting-edge software technology. We look forward to working with Northrop Grumman to deliver the best solution possible to the U.S. Navy and to other users of the CLIP technology."
